FINDING HELP

It was suggested to me by several different people that I try and find a student intern from the Marketing or Communications department of a nearby college to help me design and then implement marketing campaigns for my book. As I’ve mentioned before authors have to be marketers as well.

The idea of getting an intern was a new one to me, but I was assured that students, especially those in their senior or junior years are looking to add valuable experience to their resumes, not to mention trying out their new skills in the real world.

So I developed a flyer outlining what I was looking for and went off to Plymouth State University which is only about 10 miles away. I was warmly greeted by staff in the Student Union who not only “approved” the posting of my flyer but offered to spread it around for me. I also found several store owners where students “hang out,” very receptive to my request.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get any responses as my timing was bad. It was getting toward the end of the fall semester and finals were looming, and then the students took off for the holidays. As of yesterday they are still not back, so I think I’ll wait and get the flyers reposted in the next week or so

Helping Eons.com

Early in November I was approached by Eons.com about writing an article for their web site. They also asked if I would like to come to Boston to be interviewed by the Retirement Living Network. The new TV channel (which can be found on Comcast cable stations on the Eastern seaboard) was coming to Boston to film a story about Eons for their “Daily Apple” show. I was delighted to help with both projects.

The article which I wrote for them, “Work, Play and Giving Back,” can be found at http://www.eons.com/body/archive in the Mind & Spirit Archive list.

Being interviewed by the Retirement Living Network was a blast. I believe they are hoping to use some of my answers as short cut-ins during the program. All the technical aspects were thoroughly intriguing as well. Getting the lighting and sound just right is quite a process, and one that takes a good bit of time to set up.

While I was at Eons I got to meet a lot of very nice people including Jeff Taylor, the founder. It was a fun day and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
