Seniors Grand Central

I am very pleased to announce that I have become a regular columnist at www.seniorsgrandcentral.com. Along with that I also moderate their Forum, LearnTalk.

The vision of Seniors Grand Central (SGC), is, according to their web site to “Connect. Learn. Explore. - Three abilities we use throughout our entire life. We Connect to other people, Learn from a variety of means, and Explore all things set before us. During our years we sometimes lose the ability to easily Connect. Many times Learning the things we'd like to isn't readily available or easy to access. Exploration of our world, our potential, and our imagination has not always been available to each of us. SGC here to change that. Seniors Grand Central provides an extension to the 3 core abilities that we've embraced our entire lives, and is built around the natural language we use everyday. After all technology should make your life easier, not more difficult. So I invite you to join us, and Connect with other Members 1 Mile or 10,000 Miles away, Learn about all matters great, and small, and Explore to the extents of your imagination & intrigue.”

As a regular columnist, my goal is to get older adults interested in learning, exploring and perhaps connecting to lifelong learning, which is also the mission of my book, “Learning Later, Living Greater.”

You can find my articles highlighted in the Learn section of the web site.

The SGC Forum, LearnTalk, is where we will discuss the many aspects, value and benefits of later-life learning. Got a question? Ask it here. Want to tell others how you indulge in lifelong learning? This is the place. Have a great resource? Let everyone know right here.

I’ll be checking in on a regular basis and will do my best to give people the feedback they need and want. It is our hope that the Learning Later section of Seniors Grand Central, and the Forum in particular, will become a very useful resource.

Till next time…

Connecticut Conference

Just before Thanksgiving I teamed up with Cindy Shea, the director of the lifelong learning program at Laurel Gardens in Trumball, CT. We presented a workshop, “Baby Boomers Coming of Age,” at the annual conference of the Connecticut Recreation and Parks Association, in Hartford, CT.

With the world of therapeutic recreation and recreation for seniors changing, our presentation was designed to promote innovative onsite partnerships with colleges, communities, state and national organizations, including official Lifelong Learning Centers in affiliation with the Elderhostel Institute Network. We emphasized that these programs can be developed in diverse settings where Baby Boomers reside or visit.

It was also a wonderful way for me to use my book, “Learning Later, Living Greater: The Secret for Making the Most of Your After-50 Years,” to help educate the attendees about the value of lifelong learning for older adults.
